Are You Here?

Lately I've been battling a serious case of burn out. I'm burnt out from cooking, cleaning, teaching, and parenting!!! I told you it's a serious case! I've realized that in order to keep my head above water that I must change things. I need to be gracious with myself and realize that sometimes it's okay if the kids eat cereal every day for a month. Or if lunches are leftovers or simply popcorn, yogurt, and fruit. It's okay to say no to all the different activities and to stay at home.

Mommy guilt is a bad horrible thing. I want to feed my kids whole real foods because it's good for them and that's what a good mother would do. However, at this point I need to accept that I don't want to!! It's takes a good 45 minutes to make, cook, eat, fight about who likes baked oatmeal and who doesn't, and clean up from a good wholesome breakfast. It only takes 5 minutes for my girls to pour a bowl of organic gluten free cereal. They clean up after themselves and there is no arguing!!
It's a great thing!!!

I've also been buying our snacks!!! Horrible isn't it?!? Right now it is so much easier to keep store bought snacks on the shelf. I don't buy a ton and the kids know once the snacks are gone that is it. I always have fresh fruit and veggies and cheese for snacks. Cookies and chips are bonus snacks. By limiting how many store bought snacks we have in the house the kids are forced to decide if they're really hungry or if they're bored. And I like that they usually choose apples, bananas, or yogurt instead of chips!!

Accepting organic gluten free convenience foods in my burn out season works for me!!

You are not alone on this at all. I've been feeling the same way for many months now. It comes and goes and some days are better than others. I think I'm finally starting to come out of it,but I'm not foolish enough to think it will stay gone. With every day comes a new trial and life takes turns we don't expect, but through it all God is still present. He strengthens us even when we aren't aware. Just imagine how much worse it could be if He didn't :) You'll be okay. Just give it time and learn to relax a little. We can't be super mom, and our kids really don't want that.
