Gardening

I have been busy in our garden!! We have lettuce and spinach just popping through the soil. I've planted broccoli, carrots, and peas. I've also been busy cleaning out our strawberry patches and raspberry patch.

We're entering into our spring/summer schedule. We are a homeschooling family and I believe that it's very important to know where your food comes from. I believe that teaching my children gardening and baking is a vital part of their education. We try to wrap up our school year by May 1 but if we don't we begin this schedule...

morning chores
breakfast
garden time (usually 2-3 hours)
lunch
math,reading,writing
free time
afternoon chores
dinner
bath
bed

This year we're also going to be selling at our farmer's market so the children will be involved in this as well. Each child will be responsible for different chores/plants that we'll sell. We're hoping to make some extra money to help make our dream homestead a reality.

Involving my kids works for me!! How do you work in time for your garden?

I so agree!! We've even rearranged our homeschooling schedule to more fit my husband's work schedule so that we can be gardening/working the farmstead together while he is home with us. So because he works 2p-10p with Sunday/Monday off, we school in the afternoons with school happening on Saturdays even though it's not a "regular" school day. We too are heading to some farmer's markets and have specific vegetables/animals assigned to each of our kids. By the way, they are 9,7,5,and 3 and all are learning to love the healthy work! downhomelivin at live dot com
