Giving Up...

If you have read my blog for any length of time you'll know I am striving to live a frugal yet healthy lifestyle. Recently, we've been in the process of giving up some things I didn't think I could give up. We recently gave up store bought microwave popcorn. I now buy it in bulk from the grocery store and we make our own microwave popcorn. About the same time I was convicted on getting rid of the remaining convenience foods that I buy I ran out of cooking spray, instead of buying more I'm using up the ends of butter and like it much better. We also gave up margarine in favor of real butter.

Our snack list now consists of fresh fruit or vegetables...apples, grapes, carrot sticks, berries
and homemade popcorn or homemade cookies.

My pantry is looking "bare" consisting of rice and my many jars of canned goodness from our garden. The cereal cupboard is almost empty as is the "candy" cupboard. The fridge contains our homemade ketchup, milk, cheese, and butter. I'm working on getting rid of our store bought dressings and bbq sauce. The freezers are full of meat or homemade freezer meals.
My bread cupboard is empty...waiting to be filled tomorrow with homemade bread. The homemade cookies look lovely sitting on the counter in the "nice" dish.

Our remaining holdouts are sugar, pop ( for my hubby and I), and cooking oils. I hate to say but we're still using vegetable oil for cooking.

What are you changing in your life? Giving up works for me

Hello Autumn, I use butter and I use olive oil no more vegetable oil for us....Since it has turned cooler I have homemade chicken noodle soup on the stove and will be making corn bread to go with it....One baby step at a time..I am trying to eliminate the process foods..Hubby has a harder time with the snacks..And we are trying our hardest to get rid of the addicting pop...UGH...Drinking more teas...brewed tea that is..not the ones in the bottles..Thank you for sharing this steps in your life..I am learning from you and Elizabeth..Lisa

hello I am back to baking our own bread again and still trying to cook as much from scratch as possible. Hubby and I moved all of my full canning jars down to the shelf and it looked so pretty.
ps save your butter papers, they make great pan greasers!

Hello! I have enjoyed poking around on your blog! I think it's awesome that you are making your own ketchup and making big changes in your life.

I really need to work on that whole convenience-thing. I still buy Rice-A-Roni (even though I have a recipe). But I did make homemade tortillas recently, so I'm working on it!

Oh, I forgot to add that I recently gave up diet pepsi and chocolate. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

But I also must admit that I had a few sips of diet pepsi today and a tootsie roll.

I guess I feel like it won't hurt anything if I do it occasionally. At least it's not every day like it used to be.
