Our Electric Bill

After months of high electric bills we decided to get serious about reducing our bill. The first thing we did was to not turn on any lights during the day and use the sunshine to light our house. Next, we started unplugging everything that wasn't being used like the TV and laptop or the kids cd player. We also started turning off the laptop at night. We also stopped leaving a light on all night in our kitchen. After one month of being really careful we lowered our bill by $75!! Our electric bill this month was only $21.00!! If we are able to keep it this low we will save over $900 in a year!

That is awesome. Good for you! We also open our curtains in our living room in the afternoon. It faces south and no matter how cold it is outside if the sun is shining it brings in a lot of warmth. Got to love natural heating!

Way to go!

I like to have an occassional "lights out" night...candlelit dinner, reading or playing by candles or kerosene lamps - if you have a fireplace it's the perfect way to have a great family night. Cozy up and play board games or do crafty things or just make some s'mores. :-) I've thought of doing this on Sunday nights of every week just to see what the results would be - not just on the electric but also on the family.

I have to add that we don't heat with electric...it's gas. I could only wish for that bill to be this low!
