Creating Wiggle Room

Today I want to talk about how I find extra money in an already tight budget.

One of my favorite ways to free up some extra money is to CVS! There have been months where this has been the only way we would have been able to buy toilet paper! I used to be a coupon queen but that stopped once we made the switch to a whole foods diet. I know for many who eat a whole foods diet still use the coupons for household needs but, for our family we strive to use only organic and natural products for our household as well.  I'm still able to make CVS work for me if I watch what they are offering. I've been able to get All Laundry soap free and clear for FREE or months worth of toilet paper. They've also started carrying some organic soaps and tooth pastes so I'm able to save money there as well.

Another way we've "found" extra money in our budget is to go on a complete spending freeze. The only money spent is on gas for the work vehicle, rent, and electric bill. It's amazing to see where the leaks are in your budget! I've found that even on our tight budget we're always able to save at least $50-$75 just by doing this.

Don't spend any of your change.
We have a change jar that we put all our spare change into. I love to see it add up! Ours usually consists of many many pennies but once a year we take them and cash them in.

If you drink pop, save your cans! I'm amazed at how many people don't do this. Make sure you call around to the different recycling centers to see which one is offering the most money for them.

Use the library for your entertainment needs.
Our library recently just started carrying X-Box and PS3 games so that made my husband and son happy! I don't buy any books, movies, or cd's. I find that it's not worth owning most fiction books because I read them so fast! I do occasionally purchase nonfiction books. I've reduced my collection recently though to the books I know I'll want/use.

Barter!
I absolutely love bartering!! I've swapped surplus household items for eggs, milk, and meat. I've also swapped clothes for home school curriculum. My favorite barter is my cheesecakes for gallons of fresh raw milk! We are currently bartering for deer meat, we'll pay for the tag and my brother will supply the meat.

Awesome ideas! I really need to get better with coupons. I just find that the ones in the circulars don't seem to have anything that I want.

I need to try and print some off of websites because then I could really find something I want that way.
