I made Cheese!!

One of my homestead goals was to make cheese. Today was the day. I had an extra gallon of whole raw milk that was a little older and decided to try our hand at making cheese.
I followed the 30 minute recipe in the book The Backyard Homestead. It was much easier than I thought it would be. We also decided to try making ricotta cheese from the left over whey. I have a ball of that hanging. I don't know how well that will turn out.

Total cost-
$5 for gallon of raw milk
$3.65 for bottle of citric acid
$6.95 for liquid rennet

I also have plenty of citric acid and liquid rennet left to make quite a few more batches of cheese. I'll let you know if our ricotta cheese turns out or not!

Have you ever made cheese before?

I made ricotta last month and then used it in baked rigatoni. It was the best ever! Homemade cheese cannot be compared to purchased. Glad you ventured into this. I haven't made anymore yet since I don't seem to have the extra milk ever, but I plan too soon.
