Wishing....

My oldest daughter and I are reading Farmer Boy right now, it's amazing at how much I wish we could live like they did. My daughter loves how they were always together and they didn't need the grocery store. She's a girl after my own heart...she wants to marry a farmer when she grows up and have 10 kids.!! I appreciate how much hard work it took to survive back then and while I long to have a huge farm and be self sufficient I am grateful to have the option of grocery stores in case crops fail.

One of the things we're hoping to do this week is make butter. The kids would like to make cheese too, but I think you need special equipment for that?

What are you reading? Are you learning anything new on your journey?

I love Farmer Boy! I feel as if I was born in the wrong century sometimes.

Have you read the book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle? it is wonderful and it talks some about cheese making. I also subscribe to Mother Earth News and sometimes they have articles on cheese making. Seems pretty easy to me, at least mozzerella. Good luck!

I haven't read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle...I did just read Nourishing Traditions...it was different. I also read Mother Earth News...My new favorite homestead magazine is Countryside Stock and Journal. If you haven't seen that one you must check it out! Lots of great tips in it!!

Depending on the cheese you want to make, I don't think it requires special equipment. The soft cheeses like mozzarella and ricotta can be made at home, from what I've read, pretty easily. Just google cheese making
